What if it hurts to lie in certain positions?

If you have difficulty with certain positions (for example if you have a bad back or hip), please just ask the technologist if anything can be done to help you be more comfortable. Frequently simple changes in position or a well placed pillow is all it takes to help keep patients comfortable during their test.

What will the test tell my doctor?

Some reasons your doctor may have ordered your Abdominal Vascular Study:

  • if your Abdominal Aorta has plaque build-up, is blocked, or has an aneurysm (a balloon-like weakend area)
  • if the main circulation of blood to your legs blocked (the Iliac Arteries)
  • if you have a blockage to the arteries that supply your kidneys (Renal Arteries)
  • if any symptoms you might have had (such as pain in your abdomen) might be due to artery blockages
  • When and how will I learn the results of my test?

Please check with your doctor's office to find out how the test results will be communicated.
